大澳一日遊

1315~1425 UncleJ drove us to Tung Chung, and had our quick lunch in McDonald at 1425. we were then going to Tai O by the local bus at 1510.

The place does not get too much change, the old villagers are still honest and friendly, they welcomed us to visit their “outdoor” places, and told us a roughly introduction/history of Tai O and about their unique houses.

V are interesting in it, (he always likes talking to strangers….), they talked for a quite long time and kept us waiting! Luckily, J and me found something interesting, we saw an old old shop for selling Chinese medicines, and there was a set of the aged and rare cabinets called 百子櫃, these were the traditional storage methods for tidying up the chinese herbs and dried bugs. the shopkeepers are a pair of elderly couples, they’ve run the shop since they were young, and most of the cabinets are empty now, as they are unable to climb to the top, they only put few frequent used herbs in their eye-level boxes. And they told less people buys their Chinese medi now except the old villagers.

Children found a big dried shark in a shop, myson told that it is bigger than me, waoo~ (I don’t think I am in very big size at all! anyway, children likes to see the surprising face!) they were interesting in it very much and tried to touch it several times, of course, it’s not allowed.

Just found there is a light raw feeling of old HK, the shops for dried fishes, the old Chinese Medi shop, one or two old stores in HK style (the mini supermarkets)…. they were seen everywhere in HK 30 years ago, children always surrounded the stores after school, i was the one too hee~ We spent 5cents for a pair of coloring ice pack, i could only get one a week..maximum maximum, as it costed me too much money. Few pupils of ours bought the ice and the others often “watched” them till finished, hence, the stores were always full of kids, but they actually didn’t get many trades from us.

I hated the smell of the Chinese medi, I wanted to vomit everytime I smelled it when I was a kid, I was a 藥煲 because I got sick very often! And now, I do not hate it any more, not because of me become strong, but I always see Doctors instead.

Full of memories.
